With awareness of food allergies and intolerances on the rise, it is no surprise to see that fewer young Brits are deciding to have a homecooked meal instead of eating out at restaurants. Although this is a good sign as cooking your homemade meal is known to be healthier, it does not do the restaurant industry any favours.
Being aware of food allergies and intolerances
Having identified their food allergies and intolerances after getting tested, homecooked meals are becoming the norm for the younger generation. This is because new research by the UK’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) has been released, and it shows that over half of the British population who are aware of their food allergy now avoid eating out. This is because they simply do not know what they are eating, as ingredients are mixed and matched.
Things to watch out for
If you know you are going out to eat, then you should plan ahead. It is likely by now that you are aware if you have a food intolerance or not, but if you haven’t you should definitely do an intolerance test. If you are shown to have a food intolerance then you should be wary of what ingredients are in your takeaway or your foods at the local Sushi restaurant. With wheat and gluten being increasingly difficult to avoid, you can always plan ahead and give the restaurant a call. People should feel comfortable eating something and knowing that they will not have a reaction in their body. Of course, if you have a food allergy then there could be potentially fatal circumstances, so we do recommend you see a doctor.
Be more open
At Test Your Intolerance, we do encourage that you do tell others about your food allergy or food intolerance as it could prevent any disasters. If you are not sure if you have an intolerance, then you should consider an intolerance test, and if you think you have a food allergy, then we suggest you immediately consult your GP. As allergies and intolerances are far more common than most people think, it is essential that people know what to do if you have an allergic reaction.
